Giving Opportunities for the Testing Office
Introduced in 1945, the Testing Office has provided services to over a million students, staff, and community members through programs such as V.A. Testing and Counseling in the years following WWII and the Korean War, GED testing since GED's inception in the 1940s, placement testing, credit by exam, vocational and psychological testing in conjunction with counseling, as well as a host of graduate and professional school entrance exams, scholarship exams, and national licensing and certification exams.
In 1992, the MSU Testing Office became one of the first 8 schools in the country to offer the new computer-based Graduate Record Exam.
In 1997, the MSU Testing Office co-founded the nation's first university-based Test Preparation Consortium, a collaboration of on-campus units offering free resources to MSU students preparing for national high-stakes exams such as graduate and professional school entrance exams.
In 2006, the Testing Office began offering the GED (high school equivalency exam) in Spanish as well as English, hiring several bi-lingual proctors to assist with translation.
We need your help! In our current economic crisis, GED testing opportunities in the mid-Michigan area are more critical than ever at a time when paying for this test is more difficult than ever. GED fees are often a severe hardship for test-takers. Your contribution could provide full or partial test-fee vouchers to low-income residents.
We need your help! In the last 5 years, dramatic surges in high-stakes testing programs, including the need for more and faster computer-testing stations, have caused us to outgrow our current location. With your help the MSU Testing Office can continue its land-grant mission to make nationally required high-stakes testing readily accessible to students, community residents, and the mid-Michigan area in a secure, quiet and comfortable environment designed to promote success and make the most efficient use of space in a facility dedicated to collaborative use of resources.
